円形土製品 Circular Clay Artifact

　秋田県湯沢（ゆざわ）市の立浪遺跡から出土したこの土製品は直径約4cm、縄文時代後期のものと考えられています。
表と裏の両面は、交差するように彫られた線によって4つの部分に分割されています。それぞれの部分は点状の模様で埋（う）め尽（つ）くされており、これらは棒のような道具で粘土を突いて作られたものと思われます。よく見ると、縁に沿って彫られた線も確認できます。
　用途については、漁に使うおもり、布を作るためのおもり、小さな容器のふた、あるいは祭祀（さいし）用の道具などが考えられています。しかし、正確な使い道は今のところ分かっていません。

Excavated from the Tachinami Site in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, this clay artifact is about 4 centimeters across, and we think it belongs to the Late Jomon period.

Both the front and back sides are divided into four parts by crossing carved lines. Each part is filled with dotted patterns, likely made by poking the clay with a stick-like tool. If you look closely, carved lines are also visible along the edges.

As for its purpose, it is thought to be a fishing weight, a weight for making cloth, a lid for a small container, or a tool for rituals. However, its exact use is still unknown.
